Jan Svochak was born in Czechoslovakia in 1926. His family moved to the United States in the 1930s. During World War II Svochak served in the United States Army tank corps where he was involved in the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp.
Following World War II he worked at the animation company Famous Studios in New York working on Baby Huey, Little Audrey and Herman & Katnip, assisting Marty Taras. In addition, he freelanced for Pelican Films, Byron Rabbitt, Zanders, Perpetual Motion Pictures, Buzzco, Ink Tank, Jumbo and JJ Sedelmaier Productions. At Perpetual Motion Pictures Svochak worked on the Mr. Hipp animated series for NBC's Saturday evening Weekend program in the early 1970s, a predecessor of Saturday Night Live. He is probably best known for his work as head animator for 30 years on the Hawaiian Punch campaign.
